Do the Hokey Pokey

When is the last time you did the Hokey Pokey? It’s actually filled with many great reminders to do things that make a difference. Follow along please.

Put your hand in and shape the life you want.

Be active about putting life into your life! The emerging field of psychoneuroimmunology tells us our emotions directly influence our immune system. Where stress inhibits our immune responses, and makes us more vulnerable to viruses, disease and a host of other problems, laughter and joy reverse those effects. How can you bring more laughter and joy into your life right now?

Put your hand out – to others.

Be the one who reaches out to others to share a funny book or a funny movie. Encourage laughter and be the one that others love to connect with. How can you reach out and help those in need right now?

Next, Put your whole self in!

This is the time to really commit to the changes we are seeing and to make the necessary adjustments, regardless of how long it lasts. No one knows when things will go back to “normal” so don’t live your life day by day waiting for the old to return. Embrace the changes and keep yourself mentally and physically fit. Life really is like the Hokey Pokey: whether it's your head, your heart, or your left foot, you only get out of it what you put into it.

Equally important, Take your whole self out!

Don't be afraid to stand up for what is right. There is a lot of peer pressure from some who want to believe that it’s OK to get together in small groups, or to gather as a family. Your health and safety, as well as that of your family, is most important right now.  Trust me, it’s OK to say “No”.

There is more to the Hokey Pokey than simply putting body parts in and out.

The Hokey Pokey reminds us that sometimes we have to “turn ourselves around!”

The difference between success in life and simply not failing is how often we take a risk and try something new. It’s how we look at those challenges that life throws our way. You can cling to the comfort of the way it has always been, or you can turn yourself around a find a new path.

If the journey of a thousand miles begins with one step, make it a dance step and do the Hokey Pokey!

Something to Think About

The changes we are seeing now will change our path in the future.
